Planning Potential secures permission for Fun Box’s second Urban Fun Venue
Following our success in securing planning permission for Fun Box’s first UK Urban Fun Family Entertainment Centre in Reading, Planning Potential were appointed to obtain approval for the company’s second venue in Kingston - this time with a focus on sport. The proposal involved changing the use of the former Wilko unit in a prime Kingston Town Centre location into an exciting new sports entertainment venue suitable for all ages.
Fun Box shares the Council’s vision for a thriving town centre. Through the provision of interactive sports and games, including sports simulators and duckpin bowling, the venue will bring whole-family sports entertainment and intergenerational fun to Kingston, reintroducing activity and vibrancy to this part of the town centre.
We worked closely with the client’s licensing team to ensure alignment on opening hours and other operational conditions. Our in-house communications team, Communications Potential, were brought on board to hold a public consultation event, engaging with the local community and key stakeholders to address any questions or concerns regarding the new bespoke use before the planning application was submitted. The proposals were well received, and no public objections were received during the application process.
We ensured the application (which was categorised as a major application due to its large floor area), was supported by all necessary reports and liaised with the planning officer throughout the application process, promptly responding to comments received and ensuring no consultee objections. We were delighted to secure a delegated approval and are excited to see the change it will bring to Kingston Town Centre.
