Chestnuts House

Walthamstow, London Borough of Waltham Forest

Heritage Potential Secure Crucial Consents for ‘At Risk’ Chestnuts House on Behalf of London Borough of Waltham Forest Following Unanimous Planning Committee

Heritage Potential secured Planning Permission for the change of use of the Grade II* building from educational use to Class E to allow for creative workspace in the original 18th house with a food and beverage offering within the adjacent coach house. The coach house works include new centralised double doors to the external elevation to allow for an open feel and encourage use by locals for work or pleasure.

The newly proposed use of the site would allow for structural and restorative works across the buildings to improve their condition and allow for removal from Historic England’s ‘at risk’ register.

Site investigations and paint analysis uncovered the deeper history of the site, including 17th Century panelling in one room, and an early 18th century basement door, both of which pre-dated the house and likely related to the previous structure on the site.

Heritage Potential worked closely with the Council’s officers and Historic England through early pre-application engagement to aid a smooth application process and secure unanimous consent at Planning Committee.
