Standalone Heritage Advice Justified Extension to Grade II Listed Blackheath Villa Following Initial Officer Resistance at Pre-Application

Lewisham based architecture firm, Fraher & Findlay instructed us to provide heritage advice and prepare standalone Heritage Statements to support pre-application discussions. Initial pre-application feedback had suggested the proposed extension would cause harm to the listed building and could not be supported. Heritage Potential undertook extensive archival research and advised on design tweaks to the impressive scheme to allow for the heritage impacts to be minimised and tip the balance in favour of an acceptable design. A positive relationship was fostered with the LPA and design tweaks were carefully explained and justified through a comprehensive Heritage Statement to support the full application.

Delegated Approval was achieved, demonstrating the benefits of engaging in pre-application discussions and engaging heritage input at an early stage in the design process.
