James Carson

Assistant Planner, London

With a passion for development projects and his experience working for a housebuilder, James supports the London Officer across a variety of projects.

BSc Chemistry – University of Leeds

MSc International Real Estate and Planning – Bartlett School of Planning, University College London

After completing an MSc in Real Estate and Planning at University College London in 2022, James spent three years working for a residential housebuilder in South London, where he gained experience across a wide range of housing projects throughout London and the South East.

James joined Planning Potential in March 2026 and is a member of the residential team. He has experience supporting projects across all stages of the planning process, from preparing planning appraisals and providing early-stage strategic advice through to coordinating consultant teams, preparing planning applications, and managing the discharge of planning conditions to enable timely commencement on site. He is currently working towards completing his RTPI APC.

Prior to entering the planning profession, James graduated from the University of Leeds with a degree in Chemistry and spent three years working as a Research Analyst. While this is an unconventional route into the planning sector, James has always had a passion for the built environment, and his analytical background has provided a strong foundation for his work as a planner.

Outside of work, James enjoys spending time with friends, cooking, and following football. He also enjoys finding cheap flight deals for last-minute weekend getaways.
