Planning Potential secures a reduction in free car parking time at ALDI Portslade to allow a greater turnover of car parking spaces, helping to increase the footfall in the shopping centre.
On behalf of ALDI, Planning Potential has secured a variation of the terms of a planning condition restricting the length of free parking time available to users of a foodstore car park at Carlton Terrace, Portslade. The application had been recommended for approval, but was overturned at Committee by Members.
In allowing the appeal, the Inspector acknowledged that a balance had to be struck between providing adequate parking spaces to meet the needs of shoppers, and allowing users adequate time to access shops and services in the centre. It was considered that a reduction in the free parking period from two hours to one and a half hours would allow a greater turnover of car parking spaces, in turn increasing the footfall in the shopping centre.
