Planning Potential bespoke residential project featured in Elle Decoration’s March edition!

18 February 2021

The house is a positive contributor in a conservation area, but by combining historic imagery and justification with a convincing planning case, we were able to secure a great permission for our client enabling them to transform the house.

We were not at all surprised to see one of our private residential schemes featured in Elle Decoration magazine’s March edition. When you see the finished product, you’ll understand why.

We always love seeing our projects when they are finished, and we are sure you will agree that this scheme in Highgate is truly exceptional!

Planning Potential worked on this project alongside the incredibly talented Architects at Michaelis Boyd, helping to transform this Victorian house into a beautiful, contemporary family home.

The house is a positive contributor in a conservation area (read: incredibly difficult to make changes to!), but by combining historic imagery and justification with a convincing planning case, we were able to secure a great permission for our client enabling them to transform the house.

Specifically, we obtained approval for a large open rear extension with a terrace area above, a contemporary infill link to the garage, a new mansard roof and a number of fenestration changes, including the use of crittal and beautiful roof lights.

As all planning professionals will know, behind every great permission lies hard work! Despite local objections from surrounding residents and Residents’ Associations (and a request for listing of the property), we were able to demonstrate to both Historic England and to the Local Planning Authority that whilst the works were contemporary in nature, they were still sympathetic to the character and architectural language of the original house and surrounding area. The application was subsequently approved, and the property remains unlisted.
