Islington Council pursues withdrawal of Permitted Development right

10 November 2016

The Council published these Directions on 3 November 2016 and invites representations until 16 December 2016.

The Government introduced a new Permitted Development right in April 2016, which gives the right to change from a light industrial use (B1c use class) to dwellinghouses (C3 use class), subject to prior approval. Islington Council has made three Article 4 Directions, each covering different parts of the borough, to withdraw this Permitted Development right. The Directions relate to the Vale Royal/Brewery Road Locally Significant Industrial Site, the Central Activities Zone within Islington and other B1c locations in the borough.

The Council published these Directions on 3 November 2016 and are inviting representations until 16 December 2016. If confirmed by the Council’s Executive, these Directions come into force on 3 November 2017.

Various parts of the Borough are already covered by existing Article 4 Directions, introduced in September 2014, covering specific clusters of office uses, withdrawing the Permitted Development right for change of use from offices (B1a) to residential (B1c). The Central Activity Zone is also exempt from this Permitted Development right.
