Dorrington

Linkenholt Mansions, Stamford Brook, Hounslow, London

An Edwardian Mansion block re-imagined to be appropriate for the next 100 years. A careful retrofit and rear extensions to improve the layout of the apartments, the carbon footprint, landscaping, biodiversity and securing seven additional car free homes.

On behalf of Dorrington, we recently secured planning permission to renovate the existing building to provide modern homes that are exceptional in design and minimise environmental impact. The proposals seek to bring the standard of housing into the 21st century to meet the needs of both Dorrington’s current and future residents.

Specifically, the proposals included replacing an existing, unattractive, single-storey extension on one building end with a more sympathetic and sensitively designed three storey extension to both building wings. The extensions also allow for the rationalisation of internal space to create five new two-bedroom apartments, in addition to converting the unused loft spaces to create two new two-bedroom apartments.

These extensions will provide for improved living space for residents, without increasing the overall building footprint or reducing resident amenity space. A key driver for the proposals has been to find ways of making the building more energy efficient in the long-term. This will reduce energy costs for residents, as well as making the apartments, outdoor garden space, and the building in general, a more attractive and comfortable space to live.

Despite 55 objections from local residents, our client’s proposals were approved at Planning Committee with Councillors stating that the proposals would ‘bring the building into the modern age with a sensitively designed proposal’ displaying ‘eco credentials’, providing an ‘excellent upgrade to the building’.
